BIT20 Ensemble was founded in Bergen, Norway in 1989. Consisting of
15 musicians, BIT20 is regarded as one of the foremost Nordic
contemporary music ensembles.
BIT20 Ensemble is involved in concerts, educational work, radio
productions, CD recordings, international tours and modern opera. It has
commissioned and premiered nearly 100 works and released 23 albums.
Den Nye Opera in Bergen was established in 2005 for the purpose of
developing and sustaining professional opera in Bergen and Western
Norway. The company presents opera and music theatre on a high artistic
level, with productions spanning from small-scale to Grand Opera,
covering all epochs. Annually the New Opera engage a large number of
children and youths through a variety of projects.
Den Nye Opera collaborates on a regular basis with the Bergen
Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bergen International Festival, the National
Scene in Bergen and Grieghallen, all of who also figure as co-founders
of the company.
Position
Reporting to General & Artistic Director, the Director of
Finance and Administration will implement the infrastructure and systems
needed to support the strategic objectives. S/he will be responsible
for the oversight of administrative and financial systems, including
finance, accounting, information technology, human resources,
communications and physical infrastructure. The Director of Finance and
Administration will be involved in a range of strategic planning and
internal initiatives and is responsible financial systems. Both
companies have separate Board of Director, General and Artistic
Directors.
S/he will work closely with the General & Artistic Director and
the senior management team in developing the strategic plans. The
Director of Finance & Administration will act as a liaison on
financial matters to the Board of Directors, working closely to
strengthen the company’s financial position and other items as required.
S/he will continually evaluate best industry practices in comparison to
internal systems and needed resources, with an eye toward both future
needs and budget realities.
Responsibilities
Finance & Budgeting
The Director of Finance and Administration will have overall
financial management responsibility, including the review and approval
of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting materials and
metrics for the General & Artistic Director and Board of Directors.
S/he will oversee budgeting, financial forecasting, cash flow, and
coordination of audit activities as well as accounts payable and
receivable. The ideal candidate will not only be able to reconcile
financial activities, but should also be skilled at capturing key data
and processes in order to demonstrate the relationship between the goals
and resulting fundraising needs.
Administration/Operations
The Director of Finance and Administration will serve as a partner
to the General & Artistic Director on the organization's
administrative and operational processes, with a goal of continuously
developing and improving systems. S/he must evaluate and improve the
information technology infrastructure and support and drive key Human
Resource initiatives.
In addition, s/he will have responsibility for the administrative
aspects of staff recruitment. This will include marketing, operations,
and management of this process. The Director of Finance &
Administration will also partner with the General & Artistic
Director and the rest of the team to ensure that the focus remains on
the organization’s mission while maintaining the culture that makes the
company unique.
Qualifications
The Director of Finance and Administration will have at least 10+
years of experience, with at least five years managing the finance and
administration of a multi-million NOK culture organization or business
unit. The successful candidate will have experience leading planning
efforts and running operationally effective organizations that have
multiple functional areas. Nonprofit experience is a plus, with a strong
preference for someone who has operated in a fast growing environment
that has limited budgets and resources. An interest in culture, in
particular music, is desirable, but not essential.
Other qualifications include:
• Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting
• Experience with audit, legal compliance, and budget development
• Organization development, human resources management experience

• Experience effectively communicating key data, including
presentations to senior management, the Board or other outside
